A study of the proposed Cameron Meadows housing development in Cameron Park is under way. Plans for the 104-acre site enjoyed as open space and known to local residents as Rasmussen Pond are a 161-lot subdivision of mostly single-family homes, and 16 accessory dwelling units to serve as affordable housing.
An environmental impact report is in preparation and El Dorado County will be taking comments on the project through 5 p.m. March 5. Comments should be submitted to:
Both a virtual and in-person public scoping meeting are planned. The virtual meeting is scheduled for Feb. 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and can be accessed through bit.ly/CameronMeadowsScoping. The in-person meeting will be held Feb. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cameron Park Community Services District Assembly Hall, 2502 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park.
According to the county's Feb. 2 notice of preparation of a draft EIR, residential lots would range from .14-.38 acres on which homes of 2,600-3,587 square feet would sit. The accessory dwelling units would be attached, deed restricted at a rate affordable to low income households and range from 697-772 square feet.
The developer, The True Life Companies, plans for about 63 of the 104 acres to be left as open space, preserving Rasmussen Pond, Native American grinding rocks and oak woodlands where locals have carved walking and biking trails over decades. While the land was privately owned, the owner allowed public access.
In 2021 when "for sale" signs on the property began to appear, those who wanted to see Rasmussen Pond and its surrounding landscape untouched formed the Rescue Rasmussen Pond Alliance, which continues to rally the community to oppose construction of Cameron Meadows and attend the scoping meetings.
"Large numbers attending these meetings will demonstrate the strength of community opposition," reads a statement posted to rescuerasmussenpond.com. "Please make every effort to attend one if not both of these meetings — 'butts on seats count.'"
The county anticipates the EIR will address potential impacts to archaeological and historical resources, biological resources, hydrology and water quality, transportation and more.
The NOP of the draft EIR, including project maps and plans, is available at bit.ly/CameronMeadowsNOP.

This is just disgusting. Our BOS and planning department only care about money.
