Do you ever wish to give your backyard the pazazz that it so dearly needs? Or perhaps do you want your pool to shine like the ocean in the evening sun? Well then look no further than The Pool Place, a business based out of Placerville that has been serving the community for the past 45 years.
But what are the secrets to its success and longevity? According to Mike Tilson, The Pool Place’s owner, “The most important part is great employees and good customer service … Good customer service is making as many people happy as you can, keeping their pool sparkling, keeping their backyard in pristine condition basically.”
Over the many, many years that it has been gracing the community with its craft, The Pool Place has tried just about every marketing media out there, but swears that the best marketing comes from the very customers it serves. The word-of-mouth spread by satisfied clients after a job well done is the best.
While just about every business in this day and age is in constant competition with the internet’s vast variety of products, Tilson didn’t seem too intimidated by it.
“People like shopping local, they like answers to their questions, they get tired of online stuff …,” he said.
Perhaps it was this mindset that was able to secure so much customer loyalty toward The Pool Place. Tilman claimed that the true secret to customer loyalty is to simply treat every person who walks into his store as he’d like to be treated were he a customer. “That’s the secret, just treat people right.”
While the initial quarantine for COVID-19 affected so many small businesses in an adverse manner, it seems as if The Pool Place was actually able to thrive under the pressure. Except for a short two week period, the store was able to stay open because it sold sanitizer.
As for the overall success, it would seem that people came from all points in order to improve their backyards and pools because, for the most part, they were stuck at home. And The Pool Place was happy to assist with the quality service that has kept them open since 1977.
As he reflected, Tilson remarked on the appreciation he had for his community. “I just appreciate all the people who have supported us over the last 40 years.”
