The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a common law for every citizen in India, irrespective of religion and caste. Uttarakhand's CM has tabled a bill for its implementation, making the state the first to adopt it post-independence. Provisions include prohibiting polygamy, mandating live-in relationship registration, ensuring equal property rights for sons and daughters, and establishing a uniform marriage age. Opposition stems from concerns about cultural and religious autonomy.
